Photographic Perspectives
Texture
I chose to explore texture for one of the four elements we covered in class. My approach to the exploration was to look at the bottoms, or grip of my baby basketball shoes and my current basketball shoes. I also chose to look at the tops of the shoes, due to the fact that different parts of the shoes are different textures. By taking pictures focused on texture, it shoes how as a basketball player I have grown. My current shoes look much more worn down then my baby shoes, which shoes that they have been used a lot.
Lighting
Another element that I chose to explore was lighting and how it affected the picture and the message the picture conveyed. I explored this element by hanging the shoes from a branch. By doing so I was able to get a picture of both the shoe and the shadow it cast. I found the shadow that the shoes cast was actually quite interesting, because even though fine detail was absent, you were still able to make out both sets of shoes and the difference in sizes.
Balance
One of the four elements I chose to explore was balance. I approached this element by placing the baby shoes inside my current basketball shoes. By doing so, I think it gives an interesting perspective on the sizes of both shoes. This shows how much I have grown as a player as well as literally how much I have grown. This element allows you to see how a young basketball player has developed into an older one.
Emphasis
The last element I chose to explore was emphasis. I chose to focus on the Nike swoosh on the basketball shoes. I explored emphasis by zooming in and out on the swoosh from different spots around the shoes as well as trying to take pictures that included all swooshes on both sets of shoes. This puts a lot of emphasis on the brands of the shoes and displays how the brand that I wore when I was baby is still around today and is still a popular brand. I also like to think it shows that even as a baby I had style.
The two ideas you had in your series were very capturing. The first series however grabbed my attention more. THe idea is a very good one. The sense of abandonment is portrayed well. Good job.
